New Reality Media is the brainchild of Al Perlman and Mike Perkowski, two highly accomplished professionals in the technology media industry. We have a stable of writers and designers we can call upon, but we tend to like doing the writing and interviewing ourselves: That’s why we are doing this business rather than trying to build another large media company, as we’ve both done several times before. Our personal new reality is that we both enjoy the process of working directly with clients, writing and creating what they are looking for, and delivering great results. We take a lot of pride in our work and we believe that there’s no reason that custom content can’t be entertaining, interesting, compelling and, dare we say, exciting to read.
Just prior to launching New Reality Media, Al and Mike were co-founders of Microcast Communications, which, among other things, built the Muniwireless.com blog into a multi-million-dollar, multimedia business, and provided the launching pad for the highly successful blogs MSP Mentor and The VAR Guy.
Before Microcast, Al Perlman was President of Ziff Davis Business Media, where he was responsible for some of the leading brands in the high-tech industry, including PC Magazine, and where he launched new brands such as Baseline and CIO Insight. Before that, Al was a co-founder of Interactive Week, which was the first print newspaper about the Internet and which was subsequently sold to Ziff-Davis. Al was also the start-up publisher of Network Computing and the start-up editor or editorial director of such luminary publications as InformationWeek, CommunicationsWeek, CRN, Computer Systems News, VARBusiness and others. Al’s publications have won numerous awards for journalism and, along with Mike Perkowski, Al won a Jesse H. Neal award for the premiere issue of VARBusiness. In 2007, while at Microcast, Al was named one of the industry’s top CEOs by Folio Magazine. Al is also the chief blogger and resident expert at our “lifestyle” Web site, JazzCollector.com
Mike Perkowski also has a wide, varied and highly successful background in high-tech media. Prior to launching Microcast and subsequently New Reality Media, Mike held a number of strategic positions at Ziff-Davis. He was the founder and leader of the Ziff Davis Market Experts Group and prior to that was Marketing Vice President at Ziff Davis, where he ran all corporate marketing when the company was the dominant player in technology media. At Ziff Davis Mike was also VP of marketing at PC Magazine. Before joining Ziff, Mike worked with Al at CMP. Mike was first editor and then publisher at Computer Systems News and was associate publisher at the launch of Unix Today. Mike has also won many awards for journalism and marketing in the technology industry.
